About immersive audio

Our Grote Zaal (the main hall) is equipped with a complete immersive, spatial audio sound system. The existing system has been upgraded with 30 brand-new Funktion-One speakers and a HOLOPHONIX-Ultra processor to manage the whole system.

In Stereo

At its most basic, the sound system functions as a "super-stereo-system." Positioning and stereo imaging can be experienced from anywhere in the room, because the frontal section of the PA system has been expanded with 13 additional speakers. This is where a large part of the new system's power lies.

Mixing is done much the same as before, but with highly improved placement within the soundstage. Elements of your mix can be placed object-based, making it worthwhile to do more with the stereo image than before – because everyone in the room now truly benefits. Going for this option you will only utilise the frontal section of the PA system.

Spatial

The hall is also equipped with a total of 17 side and rear surrounds, distributed between downstairs and the balcony. This allows for an immersive, surround experience using spatial audio, placing musical elements and effects around the audience. The processor has 128 Dante inputs, providing for individual parts of the mix to be dynamically sent to different speaker positions in the room.

Musical elements and sounds can now be chosen to have a special effect on and around the audience. Think synth pads and samples draping around the audience or a wall of guitars extending deeply into the room. But this system is also very powerful in its subtleties; effects are a ready candidate for creating a room-filling sound and virtual acoustics can be built to bring the sound closer to the listener.

New possibilities also arise for DJ sets, especially if you can send stems through Serato or other software. These individual elements can be moved freely around the room, for example.

Requirements

  • Sufficient outputs on your mixing console (maximum 128 via Dante) so that selected, individual elements can be sent to the processor.

How it Works

  • Option 1: Our technicians can, by agreement, create a session in the processor tailored to your needs, giving you direct access to these options through the routing in your own console.
  • Option 2: We prepare our DiGiCo SD10 (with full Waves package) according to your rider, providing all the desired options.
